Our non-profit charity - Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas Inc. - formed to protect, conserve and restore the ecosystems and biodiversity on a long-term basis at the two Saskatoon afforestation areas, [the 326 acre Richard St Barbe Baker Afforestation Area (RSBBAA) and the 147 acre George Genereux Urban Regional Park (GGURPP)]. These two areas were preserved in perpetuity by Saskatoon City Council in 1972 and there is a much greater understanding of the value of conserving natural areas and the ecosystem functions of wetlands and forested areas. The Friends are committed to the conservation and protection of the wetlands, forests and grasslands in these areas--green infrastructure which provides a wide array of benefits to people and wildlife.
We are currently asking people if they would go out and help document the biodiversity at the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas on the smart phone app iNaturalist Both the 326 acre Richard St. Barbe Baker Afforestation Area and the 147.8 acre George Genereux Park need have a database compiled to assist with the master plan for the areas as the City of Saskatoon expands that way. We can meet anyone interested in documenting the parks, or have a zoom / facetime meeting to answer any questions.
iNaturalist Afforestation Area Eco-Quest - download the iNaturalist app on your smart phone, and take pictures of plants and animals!
