Drop off clean, good‑condition clothing at the USSU front desk anytime before the event, then stop by our table in the Arts Tunnel to browse and swap for something new‑to‑you. You can also bring clothing directly to the table during the event — the more items shared, the better the swap!

This event supports SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production by encouraging reuse, reducing textile waste, and extending the life cycle of clothing. By choosing to swap instead of shop, you’re helping lower the environmental impact of fast fashion and contributing to a more circular campus economy.

Join us, refresh your style, and make sustainability a part of your everyday choices!

In recognition of SDG Month, this Global Café Speaker Series event highlights the connections between climate action and social equity. Join Dr. Amber Fletcher, Professor at the University of Regina, for a discussion on how gender and social inequity shape people’s lived experiences of climate-related hazards such as flooding, drought, and wildfire. Drawing on community-based research and her work with organizations including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and the United Nations, Dr. Fletcher will explore why understanding these social dimensions is essential for building just, resilient, and effective climate adaptation strategies aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Participants will gain insight into the intersections of climate change, gender, work, and social justice, and how inequities influence both risk and resilience.

Registration is not required.

About the Speaker

Dr. Amber Fletcher is a Professor of Sociology & Social Studies and the Academic Director of the Community Engagement and Research Centre at the University of Regina. Her research examines how gender and social inequity shape experiences of climate hazards and explores the roles of women in male-dominated fields such as agriculture and public safety. Dr. Fletcher has collaborated with the United Nations on developing indicators for measuring gender inequality and frequently speaks at UN meetings on climate impacts and social justice.
A contributing author to a 2019 special report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), she is also the former President of the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women. Dr. Fletcher has been recognized with two Governor General’s medals for her research and advocacy on gender equality, received a Lieutenant Governor’s Postsecondary Teaching Award for Innovation in Teaching in 2024, and was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2025 for her contributions to Canada.
